ϳԹConvocation Elects Two Reps to Board of Nominators

The GCTU’s Convocation has elected two representatives to the Board of Nominators for the appointment of a ϳԹChancellor on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Florence Onny Auditorium.
The Convocation, acting in accordance with the provisions of Statute 14 and facilitated by Schedule “F” of the Basic Laws of GCTU, elected the representatives to the Board to contribute to the search for suitable candidates for the appointment of a Chancellor for the University.

The elected representatives are:

  • The Dean of SGSR and the Acting Pro-VC, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm.
  • The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Afoakwa, who chaired the meeting on behalf of the Council Chair, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Members of Convocation for attending the meeting. He highlighted the Chancellor’s pivotal role in driving the University’s success and charting its strategic paths.

In his remarks, the Chairman of GCTU’s Governing Council, Ing. Divine Kpetigo, underscored the importance of Members of Convocation taking interest in such events, adding that they must come together to discuss the progress of the University. He stressed that as a human institution, challenges are inevitable but can be overcome through unity and peace.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, who moderated the event, indicated that in line with Statute 14 and Schedule “F” of the ϳԹBasic Laws, Members of Convocation must elect representatives to the Board of Nominators to help identify suitable candidates for the Chancellorship. He further added that after a thorough search, at least two names  must be obtained to be submitted to the Board; each nominee must be a Ghanaian citizen with a distinguished record in their field.
